The Importance of Bath Time

Take yourself back to when you were 7 years old when you loved bath time. Do you remember the toys you would scurry to gather up before you got in? Did you bring toy cars, blocks or bath crayons? For me it was the barbie dolls. I remember giving her a make beleive spa day every time I decided to take a bath! It was so fun for me but as I have gotten older my love for a great bath has never changed, but my routine has morphed. The one having a spa day now is ME!

I get so excited when I get ready for bath time. I'll be running around the house grabbing the essential oil of choice, grabbing my crystals and I think my boyfriend sees me zipping through all of the rooms of the house like a mad man while I figure out what my setup should look like and feel like. Some days I want something simple and other days I want the whole 9 yards. Candles, plants, crystals, book/computer, music, etc! Gimme it all! "I'll be back in 40 minutes to an hour babe, don't mind me!"

I love surrendering to my thoughts when I soak in the bath. For me, this is when my creative thoughts are full force. However, I have a mental checklist for bath time before I can get into that headspace. I have to get ready, I have to get my set up, and I have to make sure I understand how I want to feel for bath time. There are times where I feel energetic and happy and I just want simplicity for bath time. That means I will keep it well.. simple.

  1. Essential Oil of choice. 5-10 drops in the bath will do.
  2. A quartz crystal to soak with me.
  3. A book or my phone to sit on.

See, simple. This is when I just want to of course relax, but I just want to unwind in my own space and just catch up on emails, talk to my girl friends and occasionally give my kitty a kiss on the head as he comes up to me to make sure I didn't drown.

Other days though, it can't be as simple. These are the times when I feel less than myself, I've been mentally tearing myself down all day and I am about to have an emotional breakdown. I say these times especially is when Caleb sees me running around the house like a chicken with its head cut off. I need everything but my kitchen sink in my bathroom. Stat.

What do I grab?

  1. Essential Oil of choice. 5-10 drops in the bath will do.
  2. The crystal(s) that I need at the moment to meditate with.
  3. 4-5 burning candles.
  4. Herbs to make a bath tea. (I need to make a full post about bath teas!)
  5. Plants for the atmosphere.
  6. My favorite face and body cleansers.
  7. Body oils to lather in before and after.
  8. Sage to clear the space.
  9. Music to listen to, mostly meditative sounds.
  10. Most time's I'll gather an apple cider vinegar hair wash too! (It's also great to provide in your bath water!) (Ahh, another post that I should go deeper into!)

"Just get through the day, the bath awaits you."

Remember that bath time is a chance for you to make yourself comfortable and only you know how to get there. It's a time where you can relax with a book, catch up on thoughts or emails, and it's a chance for you to appreciate your body and fall back in love with yourself. I have to do this monthly. Taking baths remind myself that this is all about me, and no one else. It reminds me to take time to acknowledge my body. Sometimes I will wiggle my toes, and examine my arms and legs and tell myself "Hey, I'm beautiful." Sometimes when I am looking at my body I will find a freckle that I never noticed and I say "Whoa, nice to meet you freckle. I'm glad we finally met."

It's important to also take bath time or your personal time in the bathroom to check out your body and find any inconsistencies. Do a breast exam, look at your vagina, feel for any moles-it might save your life someday. The sooner we get in touch with our body and get to know it the sooner we get to appreciate what we have. When we find anything that seems off, we have the power to go see a doctor and potentially save our life so we can continue living. Don't be afraid and talk to your friends if you need to. They might be able to give you some advice!

Remember to love yourself, and take time for yourself. It's so important.
